A former Vermont college that merged with Champlain College in 2008 after 33 years of operation.
Woodbury College was founded in 1975 as Woodbury Associates by Larry Mandell, Robert Brower, and James Ritvo. The institution received regional accreditation from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges in 1984 and was also accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education. It began as an associate degree-granting institution in 1993 before expanding to offer bachelor's degrees starting in 2000.
The college offered both associate and bachelor degree programs, with a traditional emphasis on in-person instruction. By the time of its closure, approximately 42 percent of classes were delivered online, reflecting a shift toward hybrid educational delivery.
Woodbury College was located in Montpelier, Vermont. The institution originally occupied 659 Elm Street and later expanded in 1987 by purchasing a barn facility across the street at 391 Elm Street.
In August 2008, Woodbury College merged with Champlain College, with all 125 students transferred to the larger institution. The college's campus was subsequently purchased by the Community College of Vermont.
