WCSU offers 38 bachelor's degrees, one associate degree, 15 master's degrees, and two doctoral programs (Ed.D. in Instructional Leadership and Nursing Education; D.N.P.). The university is organized into four schools plus a Division of Graduate Studies. Notable programs include business administration, nursing, computer science, artificial intelligence, and visual and performing arts. The institution is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE).
The Midtown Campus (original, on White Street) houses the Macricostas School of Arts and Sciences, School of Professional Studies, and administration. The Westside Campus (439 acres, purchased 1969) hosts the Ancell School of Business and School of Visual and Performing Arts, plus athletic facilities and the Ives Concert Park. Both campuses are connected by shuttle service. Students enjoy over 75 clubs and organizations, including the Roger Sherman Debate Society (Connecticut's only policy debate team) and Roots & Shoots environmental club.
WCSU admits students from the tri-state area (Connecticut, New York, New Jersey). New York and New Jersey residents pay in-state tuition; New England residents receive reduced rates through the Regional Student Program. The university serves both traditional and transfer students, with undergraduate demographics showing 50% White, 29% Hispanic, 9% Black, 5% Asian, and 5% two or more races (fall 2023). Women comprise 51.2% of the entering class; 44.2% identify as members of historically underrepresented racial/ethnic groups.
WCSU operates the Ruth A. Haas Library and provides academic support through tutoring centers, writing center, and math clinic. The university features a 20-inch Ritchy-Chretien telescope and 20-foot planetarium dome on Westside Campus. Athletic facilities include the William O'Neill Athletic and Convocation Center (1995) and Westside Athletic Complex (2003). The Visual and Performing Arts Center (2014) and Science Building achieved LEED certification. WCSU operates WXCI (91.7 FM), a pioneering alternative rock station, and publishes The Echo student newspaper (founded 1955).
