Wesley uses rolling admissions with application deadlines for Fall and Spring entry. For Fall 2027, key deadlines include Early Admission (December 1), Priority Merit-Based Financial Aid deadline (February 1), and Final deadline (July 15). International applicants must demonstrate academic preparation equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree, submit WES-evaluated transcripts, and provide English proficiency proof (TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo). Wesley Theological Seminary traces its origins to 1881 when the Methodist Protestant Church's Maryland Annual Conference passed enabling legislation. Westminster Theological Seminary was chartered in 1882 on Western Maryland College's campus in Westminster, Maryland. In 1939, it became one of ten theological schools of the newly formed Methodist Church. Institutional leaders determined in 1955 that the seminary should relocate to Washington, D.C. for greater centrality. The seminary moved to its current location in 1958 and was renamed Wesley Theological Seminary. Upon the 1968 formation of the United Methodist Church, Wesley became one of 13 seminaries under UMC jurisdiction, a status it maintains today.
