Wayland Baptist University (Alaska) was an extension of Wayland Baptist University, a private Baptist university based in Plainview, Texas. The Anchorage campus was established in 1985 at 7801 E. 32nd Ave and operated teaching sites in Wasilla, JBER-Richardson, and JBER-Elmendorf. The Fairbanks campus was established in 1985 at Eielson Air Force Base and began operating independently in 1999, with additional teaching sites in Fort Wainwright and North Pole.
In 2025, the university's Board of Trustees elected to transition all Alaska teaching operations to online-only delivery in response to demand for remote learning in the state. This marked a significant shift from the institution's previous model of maintaining physical campuses and teaching sites across Alaska.
