Vol State offers more than 100 programs of study organized into six major divisions. The college is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate degrees (A.A., A.S., A.A.S., A.S.T., A.F.A.) and numerous technical certificates. Programs span health sciences, engineering, computer science, business, education, humanities, and social sciences. The college provides traditional, online, and hybrid course formats to serve its diverse student population.
The main campus is located in Gallatin, Tennessee, approximately 30 miles northeast of Nashville. Vol State operates degree-granting centers in Livingston, Springfield, and Cookeville, collectively serving 11 counties in northern Middle Tennessee. The Livingston facility features 15 classrooms, science labs, and allied health spaces. Springfield's Highland Crest campus (25,000 sq ft) includes four classrooms, science lab, and learning support center. Cookeville's CHEC campus offers science and mechatronics labs.
Vol State supports active student engagement through the Student Government Association, honors societies (Phi Theta Kappa), and student media including The Settler newspaper, Pioneer Pen literary publication, and WVCP radio station. The college competes in NJCAA Region VII athletics with teams in baseball, men's and women's basketball, and women's softball. The baseball team reached the Junior College World Series in 1994 and 1999; the softball team competed in NJCAA Division One Championship in 2011 and 2012.
Vol State welcomes traditional high school graduates, adult learners, military-affiliated students, and international students. The college participates in Tennessee Promise (tuition-free for high school seniors) and TN Reconnect (for adult students without degrees). Dual enrollment and Middle College High School programs are available. The college offers Prior Learning Assessment portfolio credit and supports military students through VA benefits and tuition assistance programs.
