Vardhman Institute of Medical Science is a government college located in Pawapuri, Nalanda, Bihar, PIN 803115. The college was founded in 2011 and is managed by the Government. The college aims to inculcate moral character and human values in students. The Dean/Principal is Dr. (Prof.) Sarbil Kumari, MBBS, MD (Physiology).
History
The college received permission from the Medical Council of India in 2013. Its first academic session started in 2013-14 with the admission of 95 students to the first year MBBS course. The college is permitted to offer MBBS undergraduate education since 2013.
Academics
The college is affiliated with Aryabhatta Knowledge University in Patna, Bihar. It offers MBBS with an existing capacity of 100 students per year. Admission to MBBS is through NEET-based competitive entrance. Teaching of all three pre-clinical departments is currently underway, and lecture theatres and the Medical Education Unit are equipped with audio-visual aids.
Campus & Facilities
The whole college building is centrally air conditioned and the campus has greenery all around. Hostels include Girls, Boys, Doctors, Intern and Nurses hostels, along with a community hall, student recreation hall and an air conditioned auditorium. Facilities listed include a central library, indoor games hall, table tennis courts, badminton courts, a canteen, and a laundry area. A 500-bed hospital building is under construction.
Recognition
The National Medical Commission, Undergraduate Medical Education Board granted one-year recognition of the MBBS qualification (100 seats) for students admitted in 2018-19. The college must apply afresh for recognition in 2024.
