Utah Tech University operates as a comprehensive polytechnic institution organized into seven academic colleges: Arts, Business, Education, Health Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Science/Engineering/Technology, and University College. As of June 2021, the university offered 242 academic programs including 53 bachelor's degree programs, 4 master's programs, 18 associate degree programs, and 45 minors. The university's first doctoral degree—a clinical doctorate in occupational therapy—was approved in July 2022. The main Dixie Campus in St. George spans 100.11 acres and features the Encampment Mall at its center, where Mormon pioneers camped in 1861. The Atwood Innovation Plaza provides resources for business development, prototyping, and startup support; since opening, it has helped submit 195 patents and secure 104 trademarks. Utah Tech operates additional education centers in Hurricane, Kanab, Hildale, and Panguitch. The university has over 85 student clubs and organizations. Utah Tech accepts applications from first-year freshmen, transfer students, international students, graduate students, online students, and non-degree-seeking students. The university is ranked as Utah's #1 most affordable public university and offers extensive scholarship and financial aid opportunities. Utah Tech's 16 athletic teams compete in NCAA Division I as the Trailblazers (mascot: Brooks the Bison) and joined the Western Athletic Conference in 2020–2021. The university was reclassified from Division II to Division I in 2019. The student body is 75% White, 14% Hispanic, 5% two or more races, and 2% Black; 34% are low-income students. The university maintains a tobacco-free campus policy implemented in 2014.
