A closed UW System regional campus that served Washington County from 1968–2024.
The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee at Washington County was established in 1968 following UW Regent approval in 1965 and groundbreaking in 1967. The campus expanded significantly from 1980 to 2009, adding a Learning Center, lecture halls, engineering labs, and commons areas. In October 2023, the University of Wisconsin System announced the campus closure effective June 30, 2024, citing declining enrollment and sustainability concerns. The final enrollment was 285 students.
The campus offered bachelor's degree programs through collaborative arrangements with four-year UW System campuses, as well as guaranteed transfer pathways to any University of Wisconsin System four-year university. It was part of the College of General Studies at UW–Milwaukee. The campus provided access to general education and foundational coursework for students in Washington County.
UWM worked with all current students to ensure pathways to degree completion or transfer to other institutions. Students could transition to UWM's Milwaukee or Waukesha campuses, online programs, or partner institutions like Moraine Park Technical College. UWM offered one-time transition scholarships of $500 for associate degree students and $1,000 for bachelor's degree students in the 2024–25 academic year.
The campus was located in West Bend, Wisconsin, and leased its facilities from Washington County. The facility included approximately 30,000 square feet of space added in 2009, featuring modern learning centers, lecture halls, engineering labs, and student commons areas. The building and parking lots closed to the public on June 30, 2024.
