Sagrado offers associate degrees, bachelor's degrees, and master's programs across six schools: Health & Sciences, Business, Education, Communication (Ferré Rangel), Arts/Design/Creative Industries, and General Education. The 33-acre campus in Santurce features historic buildings including the 1906 Administration Building (on the National Register of Historic Places), the Mother María Teresa Guevara Library, and the Emilio S. Belaval Theater. Modern facilities include student residences, a sports complex with indoor stadium, tennis courts, Olympic pool, science and nursing laboratories, and television studios. The university maintains an active student life with residential housing, student organizations, sports teams competing in Liga Atlética Interuniversitaria, and cultural programming.

Founded in 1880 by the Society of the Sacred Heart, the institution began as an elementary school and evolved into a college in 1935. Originally serving women, it became coeducational in 1972. The university's mission emphasizes educating people in intellectual freedom and moral conscience to build a more authentically Christian Puerto Rican society. Pope John Paul II visited the campus in October 1984, the only papal visit to Puerto Rico.
