History & Accreditation
The University of Mysore was established on July 27, 1916, making it the sixth oldest university in India and the first in Karnataka. Founded through the efforts of Maharaja Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV and Diwan Sir M. Visvesvaraya, it was the first university in the country to be established outside the limits of British India. The university achieved distinction as the first institution to be accredited by NAAC in 2000 with Five Star Status and is currently ranked 19th in the India Rankings 2021 by NIRF-MHRD.
Academics
The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs across six faculties: Arts, Science and Technology, Commerce, Education, Law, and Engineering. Academic programs follow both the SEP (Semester End Pattern) and NEP (National Education Policy 2020) systems. The university provides distance education, online programs, and operates multiple PG centers and institutes. Admission processes are conducted through the UUCMS (Unified University Common Merit System) portal.
Library & Digital Resources
The Mysore University Library houses over 1.2 million items including books, journals, reports, rare materials, and archives. The library operates from 8am to 8pm (with reduced Sunday/holiday hours) and provides access to thousands of e-journals, e-books, and digital repositories through the ONOS platform. The Digital Information Resource Centre features 270 PCs with internet browsing, serving approximately 500 users daily. Specialized facilities include a Career Information Resource Centre for competitive exam preparation and a Visually Challenged Resource Centre equipped with assistive technologies.
Student Support & Career Development
The University Career Hub supports student employability through three main divisions: a Skill Development Centre offering online and face-to-face services for career planning; a Design Hub providing state-of-the-art facilities for innovative business ideas and prototyping with industry mentors; and an Incubation Center offering structured mentoring, networking events, and seed funding for validated business ideas. Additional student amenities include hostels, sports facilities (including Ranaji Cricket Stadium and swimming pool), health center, community radio, NSS programs, and various support cells for grievances and scholarships.
Campus Infrastructure
The university campus features multiple notable buildings including the Centenary Clock Tower, Sabarmati Ashram Model, and a museum. Campus-wide facilities include auditoriums, open-air amphitheatre, banking and ATM services, post office, bookstore, and food court. The main administrative office is located at Vishwavidyanilaya Karya Soudha, Crawford Hall, Mysuru-570005. The university maintains both undergraduate and postgraduate campuses, with the PG campus at Manasagangotri.
