Louisiana's only public research university offering meteorology and pharmacy education in Northeast Louisiana.
ULM comprises four colleges offering undergraduate and graduate degrees across sciences, humanities, business, health sciences, and pharmacy. The Department of Atmospheric Science operates the only four-year meteorology program in Louisiana and maintains a polarimetric S-band Doppler weather radar for research and forecasting support. The College of Pharmacy, established in 1956, is Louisiana's only publicly supported center for pharmaceutical education and research, occupying a 132,000-square-foot facility with modern classrooms and research labs. ULM also offers distinctive graduate programs including a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy (COAMFTE-accredited since 2007) and a Bachelor of Science in Toxicology, one of only six such programs nationally.
The 238-acre campus in Monroe features eight residence halls and apartment complexes (Madison Hall, Ouachita Hall, University Commons, University Suites, Bayou Suites, Bayou Village Apartments, Masur Hall, and Warhawk Village Apartments). Students engage through the Student Government Association, University Activities Board, honor societies (Phi Kappa Phi, NSCS, Pi Sigma Alpha, Sigma Tau Delta), and student publications including The Hawkeye newspaper and The Chacahoula yearbook. The university supports 14 Greek organizations across three governing councils and hosts the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall for theater and music performances. Athletics include NCAA Division I FBS football and seven other varsity sports competing in the Sun Belt Conference.
ULM accepts freshmen, transfer, international, online, and graduate students. The university offers pathways for beginning freshmen, transfer students, international applicants, and continuing education students. ULM was recognized in 2016 as a military and veteran-friendly campus by Louisiana.
