Founded in 1916 as a two-year women's normal school, the institution became a four-year college in 1938 and moved to its current Algiers campus in 1960. Men were admitted beginning in 1967. The university was renamed from Our Lady of Holy Cross College to University of Holy Cross in January 2016.
