UConn offers comprehensive undergraduate and graduate education through 14 schools and colleges with more than 125 undergraduate majors and the option to create custom majors. UConn is the only U.S. institution offering a master's degree in puppetry. The university operates five additional regional campuses in Avery Point, Stamford, Hartford, Waterbury, and Torrington, plus UConn Health in Farmington.
The Huskies compete in NCAA Division I, primarily in the Big East Conference. The women's basketball program is legendary, winning a record 12 national championships including four consecutive titles (2013–2016). The men's basketball program is also nationally prominent. Across all sports, UConn has won 26 NCAA championships. The university's mascot is Jonathan the Husky, and school colors are national flag blue and white.
UConn is a land-grant and sea-grant institution with significant research infrastructure. The university established UConn Health in the 1970s with schools of medicine and dental medicine in Farmington. Recent initiatives include the Jackson Laboratory's $1.1 billion genomic medicine facility (2012) and Next Generation Connecticut, a $1.7 billion state investment (2013) to enhance STEM infrastructure and hire 250+ new faculty.
