The college delivers professional military education through four schools. The Command and General Staff School offers a ten-month Command and General Staff Officers Course (CGSOC) to approximately 1,200 officers annually in residence, with additional delivery at satellite campuses and via distance learning to 5,300+ students worldwide. The School of Advanced Military Studies provides advanced programs leading to Master of Arts degrees in Military Operations and Strategic Studies. The School for Command Preparation offers continuing education for battalion and brigade commanders. The Sergeants Major Academy, located at Fort Bliss, Texas, trains senior noncommissioned officers. Graduates of select programs are eligible to pursue the Master of Military Art and Science degree, accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.
CGSC educates, trains, and develops leaders for unified land operations in joint, interagency, intergovernmental, and multinational environments. The college advances the art and science of the Profession of Arms in support of Army operational requirements. Since its founding in 1881, it has educated military officers from the United States and 155 foreign nations, with over 50 percent of international graduates attaining general officer rank.
The main campus is located at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Eisenhower Hall houses the Combined Arms Research Library. The college maintains satellite campuses at Fort Belvoir, Virginia; Fort Lee, Virginia; Fort Gordon, Georgia; and Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. The Sergeants Major Academy operates at Fort Bliss, Texas. Distance-learning modality is available for select instruction.
The college has educated numerous prominent military leaders including Dwight D. Eisenhower, George S. Patton Jr., Omar Bradley, Colin Powell, and David Petraeus. International alumni include heads of state and senior military leaders from over 155 countries. The college reports that more than 50 percent of international military student graduates attain the rank of general.
