Tripura University is a Central University located at Suryamaninagar, Tripura, with a PIN of 799 022. It is an affiliating university, and its campus covers 97 acres. The campus is situated in a zero pollution zone, about 10 km south of the capital city Agartala, on the National Highway. The university's autonomous character is not interfered with in any way by the State Government.
History
The university traces its beginnings to 1976, when the UGC sanctioned a post-graduate wing of Calcutta University named Calcutta University Post graduate Centre (CUPGC) in Tripura. It was established as a state university in 1987 and was converted to a Central University with effect from 2 July 2007 under the Tripura University Act, 2006, as enacted by Parliament.

It has 71 affiliated colleges. D.) Programmes, 48 Postgraduate Programmes, 3 Postgraduate Diploma Programmes and 13 Undergraduate Programmes. Its vision is to develop conscientious citizenry in the 'Knowledge Society', and it aims to enhance quality research and peer-reviewed outputs of its scholars and faculty.

The campus includes R.S Hostel (Gents), R.S Hostel (Womens), P.G. Gents Hostel, P.G. Womens' Hostel and P.G. Boys Hostel. Other facilities include a Central Library, a University Health Centre and a University Ambulance.
