The Toronto School of Traditional Chinese Medicine is a private school in North York, Ontario, focused on TCM education and clinical training.
The Toronto School of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TSTCM) was established in 1995 by Mary Xiumei Wu, who is the school's President. Its mission is to promote, educate and provide services in Traditional Chinese Medicine to benefit the general public's health and gain recognition of TCM as a primary health care profession in Canada. The school is located at Lawrence Square, 700 Lawrence Ave W, North York, Ontario.
The school was founded to promote TCM as a formal health care profession and to integrate it into the mainstream health care system in Canada. In 1998, it became the first TCM school to offer the four-year full-time TCM Doctor Diploma program. In 2002, that program was upgraded to a five-year Advanced TCM Program to match the curriculum requirements of other professions. In 2017, TSTCM became the first private TCM school approved for the Ontario Student Assistant Program (OSAP).
The school aims to provide professional training in TCM, acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and tuina massage, and to prepare graduates for licensing exams and careers as primary health care providers. The school states that over 90% of its students complete the programs and pass the national examinations. Its homepage also reports a 100% passing rate for new graduates on the Pan-Canadian Examination and NCCAOM examinations.
The school operates teaching clinics where students treat real patients under the supervision of experienced TCM experts. It also offers acupuncture treatments to terminally ill patients, their family members and staff at Dorothy Ley Hospice.
