Toronto Baptist Seminary and Bible College is an English-speaking theological institution that prepares people for Christian gospel ministries, with emphasis on pastoral training in the Calvinistic Baptist tradition. The college aims to train and mentor pastors and Christian workers who have a passionate love for the triune God and a solidly Reformed understanding of His Word. Its Administration Building is at 337 Jarvis Street, Toronto, and its mailing address is 130 Gerrard Street East, Toronto, ON M5A 3T4, Canada.
The Seminary's classes opened on January 4, 1927, at the Seminary Building, 337 Jarvis Street, Toronto. It was founded in response to Modernism in theological institutions and was born in a time of crisis to fill an immediate and urgent need. Dr. T. T. Shields, Editor of The Gospel Witness, published an article in 1925 setting out foundation principles for the proposed Toronto Baptist Pastors College. As of October 11, 1985, the name was changed to The Toronto Baptist Seminary and Bible College.
The Seminary has had the legal right to confer degrees since its inception in 1927. It is accredited by the Association of Reformed Theological Seminaries (ARTS) to grant degrees at the Associate, Baccalaureate, and Master's levels. The college adheres to the Second London Baptist Confession of Faith (1689), and its Doctrinal Statement is publicly signed each year at Convocation by all Faculty and Trustees.
Facilities listed by the college include the Peter Macgregor Memorial Library, a Digital Theological Library, student residence, and a residence meal plan.
The college lists several admission routes, including undergraduate degree admission through the OSSD route, mature applicant admission on probation for the degree course, and admission via an approved university course for mature applicants. Graduate degree admission is available for the M.Div., M.T.S., and Certificate of Theological Studies, and all applicants complete a standard application.
