The Audio Recording Academy (T.A.R.A) is an Ottawa-based school offering practical audio recording education in working recording studios.
The Audio Recording Academy (T.A.R.A) was founded in 1992 by Ottawa's Raven Street Studios. It aims to provide a quality, practical audio recording education in a nurturing environment at a reasonable price for students. The school is located at 1540 Raven Avenue, Ottawa, ON, K1Z 7Y9, and its registered phone number is (613) 798-0070.
TARA's first class had 4 students. Enrollment now runs around 30 students a year, and the school keeps its classes small. In 2002, the school opened a Toronto campus.
TARA keeps class sizes small, with 5-7 students per group, and provides more in-person, hands-on teaching time. The school teaches the most current and relevant recording techniques and adjusts as the industry changes. Students are included in audio production in the studio to gain real-world experience before graduation.
Students study in one of three recording studios rather than traditional classrooms. TARA operates out of industry-active recording studios. The school is also a fully functioning, professional recording studio that lets students work in real sessions.
