TAMUG offers ocean-focused undergraduate and graduate programs across sciences, engineering, business, and liberal arts. Undergraduate majors include Marine Biology, Marine Sciences, Marine Engineering Technology, Maritime Transportation, Maritime Business Administration, Coastal Environmental Science & Society, and Maritime Studies. Graduate programs in Marine Biology, Marine Sciences, and Maritime Administration award master's and PhD degrees. The campus features unique 3+2 concurrent degree programs allowing students to earn bachelor's and master's degrees in five years. Engineering at Galveston allows freshmen from College Station to complete foundational coursework before matriculating into their major programs.
The Maritime Academy trains cadets for U.S. Merchant Marine officer licensing and naval commissions. Students earn Third Mate or Third Assistant Engineer licenses through deck or engine tracks, completing classroom instruction, hands-on training in simulators and labs, and three summer training cruises aboard academy vessels. The academy also offers Strategic Sealift Officer and Navy ROTC programs, with cadets receiving $8,000 annual stipends in SSO tracks. All Maritime Academy students join the Corps of Midshipmen, a regimented program emphasizing discipline, leadership, and professional development.
The 135-acre suburban campus on Pelican Island offers on-campus housing (required for some students), recreational facilities including volleyball courts, gym, pool, tennis courts, and indoor basketball court. The student body of ~2,300 includes 43% women and approximately 75% science and engineering majors. Over 60 student and professional organizations, interest-based living communities, and smaller class sizes foster strong student-faculty relationships. Students originate from 49 states and the District of Columbia; approximately 57% plan to pursue graduate degrees and 65% receive financial aid.
TAMUG admits undergraduate and graduate students through regular decision pathways. Starting fall 2025, in-state tuition is offered to all incoming U.S. undergraduates selecting designated U.S. Coast Guard license degree programs. The campus provides academic advising, honors programs, the Jack K. Williams Library, and the Center for Academic Learning Support.
