Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce is located at Senapati Bapat Road, Pune - 411004. Its vision is to be a Centre of Excellence in developing global competencies through knowledge creation and dissemination, character building and social commitment. The college has students from approximately 36 Afro-Asian countries and from almost all the states of India.
History
The college was established in 1983 and recently celebrated its silver jubilee. It is part of the wider Symbiosis family, which grew from the Symbiosis International Cultural Center, established in 1971 to support international students studying in India. The Founder Director of Symbiosis was Dr. S. B. Mujumdar. The college was granted Autonomy by the UGC effective from the academic year 2012-13.
Academics
The college offers four-year Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Arts programs under NEP 2020, along with two-year Master of Commerce and Master of Arts programs in English, Economics and Psychology. Its BCom courses have syllabi integrated with professional bodies including ACCA UK, IMA (leading to CMA certification) USA and the Institute of Analytics (IoA) UK.
Campus & Facilities
The campus features an extensive library with access to online resources, a Wi-Fi network, a gymnasium, medical and health services, and a food court. Listed facilities include the Symbiosis Vishwabhavan Girls Hostel, Symbiosis Vishwabhavan Boys Hostel, Symbiosis Hostel Model Colony, a library and an e-library.
Admissions
Admission is merit-based, with pre-merit registration and a merit list for first-year students. Seats are also available under the super numeric quota for foreign students, which is processed through the SPPU International Centre, as well as reserved seats for Jammu and Kashmir and North-Eastern Indian States, and seats under the Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS).
Recognition
The UGC recognised it as a College with Potential for Excellence (CPE) in 2016 and conferred Empowered Autonomous status in July 2024. The college continues to be under Savitribai Phule Pune University, which confers its degrees.
