National Institute of Technology Surat is a public technical institute in Ichchhanath, Surat, Gujarat, offering engineering, science and management programmes.
The institute was established in 1961 as Sardar Vallabhbhai Regional College of Engineering & Technology (SVRCET) Surat, one of the Regional Engineering Colleges to impart technical education. It began by offering Bachelor Degree Programmes in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. The Government of India declared it Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) Surat with Deemed University status with effect from 4th December, 2002. Under the National Institutes of Technology Act-2007, it was granted the status of Institution of National Importance with effect from August 15, 2007.
The institute offers eleven B.Tech. degree programmes, twenty-one M.Tech. degree programmes and three Five Years Integrated M.Sc. degree programmes. It also offers doctoral degree programmes in Engineering, Science, Management and English. Departments include Artificial Intelligence, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, Management Studies, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering and Physics. The Government of India has recognized the institute as one of the centres for the Quality Improvement Programme for M.Tech. and Ph.D.
The institute aims to be one of the leading technical institutes disseminating globally acceptable education, effective industrial training and relevant research output. Its mission is to be a globally accepted Centre of Excellence in technical education, catalyzing absorption, innovation, diffusion and transfer of high technologies. One stated objective is to promote a research environment.
The campus is located at Ichchhanath, Surat-395007, Gujarat, India. Listed facilities include hostels with Wi-Fi/LAN internet, sports facilities and mess, institute buses, a Central Library with digital access and green building features, and a Health Centre with an Adolescent Health Clinic.
B.Tech. admission is through JEE (Main) and JoSAA/CSAB, with a separate route for ICCR international applicants. M.Tech. admission is through CCMT (GATE-based) and an Institute Spot Round, with a written test for ICCR applicants. PhD admission for ICCR applicants is through a presentation and interview.
