History
The College began in a small one-storey building in Santhome, Mylapore with 32 students. It moved to its present campus, The Cloisters on Cathedral Road, in 1960. The College is a Catholic minority institution established and run by the Society of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary (FMM), a congregation founded by Blessed Mary of the Passion (Helene de Chappotin) in Ootacamund, Tamil Nadu in 1877. Today the College has an enrollment of 5000 students from diverse backgrounds, communities and nations.
Mission and Values
The vision of the College is to build a vibrant and inclusive learning community in a culture of excellence sustained by a sound value system. Its mission is to empower young women to face the challenges of life with courage and commitment. The College motto is Truth and Charity. Admission is open to all, irrespective of caste and creed, and the rights of conscience of students are respected.
Academics
The College offers traditional Arts and Science courses and emerging areas such as International Studies, Information Technology, Bioinformatics and Biotechnology. It is committed to serving the economically and socially marginalised sections of society.
Campus and Facilities
Facilities listed include hostels, banking services through an Indian Overseas Bank branch, a DTP Centre, a canteen, and a library with Wi-Fi, internet access, reprographic services and research cubicles in the PG Library. Admissions
Undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are applied for online. Admission is based on merit with an interview for UG and PG programmes, with an entrance test for B.A. English and all postgraduate programmes. Bachelor of Visual Arts (B.V.A.) requires an Aptitude Test (Drawing), and lateral entry into the II or III year of the undergraduate programme is available.
