SUNY Canton offers bachelor's degrees, associate degrees, and certificate programs through three academic schools: the School of Business & Liberal Arts, the Canino School of Engineering Technology, and the School of Science, Health & Criminal Justice. The college features a ladder curriculum allowing students to earn certificates or associate degrees before advancing to bachelor's programs. Notable partnerships include cross-registration with St. Lawrence University, Clarkson University, and SUNY Potsdam, plus specialized 2+2 and 1+1 programs in environmental science and forestry with SUNY ESF.
The 555-acre campus includes the Richard W. Miller Campus Center (opened 2002), Southworth Library with over 65,000 volumes, the Newell Veterinary Technology Center, and the Canino School of Engineering housed in the Nevaldine Technology Center. Five residence halls (Kennedy, Heritage, Mohawk, Rushton, Smith) line the Grasse River. The Convocation, Athletic and Recreation Center (CARC/Roos House), completed in 2011, features athletic courts, an ice arena, pool, and fitness center. Students participate in clubs, intramurals, and the Student Government Association.
SUNY Canton competes in NCAA Division III, primarily in the North Atlantic Conference since 2018–19. The Kangaroos field 17 varsity sports including men's baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, and soccer; women's basketball, cross country, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, and volleyball; and co-ed cheerleading and esports. The men's ice hockey program won 15 NJCAA National Championships (1973–2000). The college was the first New York State team to join the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) in 2018.
SUNY Canton accepts first-time freshmen, transfer, international, and returning students. The college offers military tuition benefits for active-duty, reservist, and National Guard members. Academic support includes the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), CSTEP, TRiO, and student accessibility services. Partnerships with University at Buffalo Law School and University at Albany enable students to pursue law and graduate degrees through 3+3 and other articulation agreements.
