An experimental state-funded community college in East Saint Louis, Illinois (1969–1999).
State Community College of East Saint Louis was established around 1969 through Public Act No. 76–724 as an experimental community college district. Unlike other Illinois community colleges, it was directly controlled by the Illinois Community College Board and funded by the State of Illinois. After a public referendum to abolish the college, it was replaced by Metropolitan Community College (District 541) around 1995. The successor institution's North Central accreditation was transferred effective July 1, 1996, but MCC was dissolved by the ICCB on January 1, 1999, due to reported problems with financial and student enrollment reporting.
The college's campus is now operated as the East St. Louis Community College Center, managed by a consortium of community colleges and Southern Illinois University campuses.
