The Ecclesiastical Faculty of Theology's principal graduate program is the Licentiate in Theology and Patristic Studies (S.T.L.), a two-year degree. The Faculty also offers a Diploma in Philosophy, providing foundational philosophical formation for advanced ecclesiastical theological studies. The Institute of Theology offers certificates, diplomas and full master's degrees in theology, in day-long workshops and flexible course formats. The Permanent Diaconate Formation Program prepares candidates for ordination as permanent deacons for the Archdiocese of Toronto, including a propaedeutic year of discernment and four years of formation.
Priestly formation includes regular and supervised pastoral placements, one-on-one and communal accompaniment, and a broad and rigorous academic life. It is faithful to the CCCB's 2022 Program for Priestly Formation for English-Speaking Canada and the Pontifical S.T.B. curriculum requirements. Each candidate is evaluated by the Rector, Academic Dean, Human Formation Counsellor, and a member of the Formation Faculty before admission.
The seminary is located at 2661 Kingston Road, Toronto, ON, M1M 1M3, in a city of considerable cultural diversity. Listed facilities include a library with reference and research assistance and a Pickup/Scan & Deliver service. The Serra House includes a chapel, dining room, exercise room, student lounge, common room, kitchen, prayer room, oratory, and student rooms.
The Priestly Formation Program admits candidates through sponsorship by a diocese or religious order, evaluation, and psychological assessment. General enrolment is available as Ordinary, Extraordinary, or Auditor, through a Letter of Recommendation.
