About
Sri Aurobindo College (Evening) is a public constituent college of the University of Delhi. The college is named after the nationalist, reformer and philosopher Sri Aurobindo Ghose and is established on the motto Tamso Ma Jyotirgamaya, translated as 'Lead me from darkness to light'. Its address is Shivalik, Malviya Nagar, New Delhi-110017.
History
The college was established in 1984 and opened its doors to women students in 1988.
Academics
The college offers courses in Humanities, Social Sciences and Commerce and has a present student strength of 2100. It aims to provide a stimulating learning environment with elements of western knowledge but anchored in traditional Indian culture and values. Its vision is based on the philosophy of Sri Aurobindo, who wanted to create a new world of truth.
Campus & Facilities
The lush green campus is spread over 3 acres of land and is located centrally in Block B, Shivalik Colony, Malviya Nagar. The college is a ten minutes' walk from the Malviya Nagar Metro station and is well connected by Delhi's public bus transport system. Facilities include a digitized library, a career guidance and placement cell, grievance cell, a hygienic canteen, a seminar hall and a doctor on campus.
Admissions
Admission routes include merit-based admission on Class XII marks (not CUET), Sports Supernumerary Quota, ECA category admission and Ward quota admission.
Recognition
The college is a NAAC accredited Grade B+ institution and has been placed amongst the top 150 Higher Education Institutions on Performance by the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF). It is the only college in the university to be part of the Project X-Culture global venture since 2013.
