Spertus offers graduate degree and certificate programs rooted in Jewish wisdom and culture. Core offerings include MA in Jewish Professional Studies, Executive MA in Jewish Professional Studies, MA in Jewish Studies, Doctor of Science in Jewish Studies, and Doctor of Hebrew Letters. Certificate programs focus on Jewish Leadership, Synagogue Executive Leadership, and Combating Antisemitism. All programs merge theory with practice, educating Jewish professionals, community leaders, and scholars. Learning is delivered through onsite seminars, online courses, and hybrid formats to accommodate working professionals.
The Institute's landmark building at 610 S Michigan Avenue opened in November 2007 and cost approximately $50 million. Designed by Chicago-based Krueck Sexton Partners, it features a distinctive ten-story faceted window wall made of 726 individual glass pieces in 556 different shapes, offering views of the Chicago skyline, Grant Park, and Lake Michigan. The building houses classrooms, offices, a library, a 400-seat theater, and event spaces. It received the Distinguished Building Award and Divine Detail Award from the American Institute of Architects' Chicago Chapter and Best Building of the Year from Interior Design Magazine.
Spertus believes that Jewish history, thought, and texts have meaning both as academic pursuits and as catalysts for action. The Institute serves thousands annually through public programs in addition to its graduate offerings. Students and participants gain knowledge and skills to shape stronger futures within and beyond Jewish communities. The Institute is a partner with the Jewish United Fund and emphasizes innovation, flexibility, inclusivity, and intellectual adventurousness in addressing contemporary issues through Jewish learning.
