Academics
SPA Bhopal offers a comprehensive spectrum of built environment education across three levels. Undergraduate programmes include Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) and Bachelor of Planning (B.Plan), both four-year integrated dual degree programmes. Eight postgraduate specializations span Conservation, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Environmental Planning, Urban and Regional Planning, Transport Planning and Logistics Management, Building Engineering and Management, and Design. The institute also offers doctoral research programmes across departments aligned to institute research themes, with rolling admissions available.
Campus & Infrastructure
The 70-acre residential campus at Bhauri, Bhopal features modern hostels with twin-sharing rooms equipped with study tables, beds, fans, cupboards and balconies. Academic facilities include Graphics Lab, GIS Lab, Computer Center, Workshop, Library, and Health services. The campus incorporates ecological design principles, sharing its grounds with Neel Gai and migratory birds. Amenities include twin lakes, an Open Air Theatre, and guest house facilities. Students benefit from on-campus mess services with cooperative management.
Admissions
Undergraduate admissions to B.Arch and B.Plan are conducted through Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JOSAA) based on National Testing Agency (NTA) qualifications and Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) requirements. Postgraduate admissions for 2026 are through JAAP-PG. Doctoral admissions operate on rolling advertisement basis. Special admission categories exist for Kashmiri Migrants and Defence Personnel. Physical reporting and verification procedures are managed by the Assistant Registrar (Admissions & Examinations).
Research & Innovation
The institute operates 9 research centres addressing contemporary challenges in the built environment. The Center for Human Centric Research focuses on inclusive design for vulnerable populations. Active research areas include urban innovation, sustainable habitat, geoinformatics, and heritage conservation. Students regularly achieve recognition in national and international competitions, with recent wins including 1st Prize in National Urban Design Competition, Smart City Innovation Challenge, and Daida Foundation Global Urban Thesis Awards.
