Southern Connecticut offers 225+ academic programs across the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business, College of Education, College of Health and Human Services, and School of Graduate and Professional Studies. The university is particularly renowned for teacher education—the only Connecticut school offering a master's concentration in autism spectrum disorders—and nursing, with consistently high NCLEX pass rates. All undergraduates complete the Liberal Education Program (LEP), a 42-credit interdisciplinary requirement spanning inquiry, writing, languages, and nine thematic categories. Southern Connecticut achieved R2 (Doctoral Universities – High research activity) status in 2025, making it Connecticut's first and only R2-designated university and one of only 139 nationally. The university serves a diverse student body: 44% White, 25% Hispanic, 20% Black, 4% Asian; 42% are low-income (Pell-eligible).
