Sree Narayana College, Chempazhanthy is located in Chempazhanthy, Thiruvananthapuram - 695587, Kerala, India. Chempazhanthy, the birth place of Sree Narayana Guru, is ten kilometers from Thiruvananthapuram city. The college is affiliated to the University of Kerala. Its motto is 'Enlightenment through Education'.
History
The college was established by the Sree Narayana Trusts, Kollam, in memorial obeisance to the social reformer and seer Sree Narayana Guru. It was formally inaugurated on 20 July 1964 by Sri. R. Sankar, then Chief Minister of Kerala. Prof. T.C. Rajan was the first Principal. With the introduction of a postgraduate degree course in History in 1982-83, the college was elevated to the status of a postgraduate institution.
Academics
The college offers degree courses in History, Economics, Commerce, Political Science, English Language & Literature, Sociology, Psychology, Geology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology and Botany. It imparts education and training to more than 2,000 students every academic year. Its stated vision is to create an egalitarian society through education, irrespective of caste, class or creed.
Campus & Facilities
The college is set on an undulating verdant campus of thirty acres. Its fully automated general library holds more than 40,000 books, including reference books, thesis collection and rare books, and offers digital repository and online database access. Other listed facilities include laboratories, a girls' hostel and a girls' waiting room.
Recognition
The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) assessed the college and awarded it B+ level based on academic performance and infrastructure. The college holds NAAC Accreditation (Cycle 3) with Grade A.
