American Samoa's pioneering public high school, established in 1946 in Utulei.
Samoana High School opened in 1946 as the High School of American Samoa, marking the establishment of the first secondary school in the territory. The school was founded through the efforts of Mr. and Mrs. Matsinger from Kamehameha Schools in Hawai'i. Success was immediate, with twenty graduates pursuing higher education on the mainland or in Hawai'i within the first two years. New buildings were dedicated on May 20, 1949. A significant fire destroyed the school in 1979, but it was subsequently rebuilt.
The school has produced numerous prominent figures in American Samoan politics and sports. Alumni include Lolo Matalasi Moliga (57th Governor of American Samoa), Togiola Tulafono (56th Governor), Faoa Aitofele Sunia (former Lieutenant Governor), and several other politicians. The school has also produced notable athletes and entertainers, including Isaac Sopoaga (football player), Deutsch Nuuelua Puu (MMA World Champion), and Marion Malena (Multiple Pageant Titleholder).
