History & Mission
Sadakathullah Appa College was founded in 1971 by the Muslim elite of Tirunelveli district to provide higher education to the sizeable Muslim population and other underprivileged sections of society. Named after the renowned Arabic scholar Sadakathullah Appa, the college operates under the Sadakathullah Appa Educational Society. It became co-educational in 1997 and achieved autonomous status in 2007-2008. The college's motto is 'My Lord, Vouchsafe Me Wisdom.'
Academics
The college offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Humanities, Arts, and Sciences, with a shift system implemented since 2007-08. Aided courses run from 8:00 AM to 1:10 PM, while self-finance and add-on courses operate from 1:20 PM to 6:15 PM. The institution undertakes research at M.Phil and Ph.D levels and provides extension services. The college maintains 45 library journals, 1,892 projects, and 51,960 book banks.
Campus & Infrastructure
The college occupies a 40-acre sprawling campus with total building construction of approximately 1,01,000 sq.ft, including 9,000 sq.ft of new classrooms. Facilities include separate hostels for boys (24,475 sq.ft, accommodating 205 students) and girls (two hostels of 14,000 sq.ft each, accommodating 306 students annually). Additional amenities include a cafeteria, mosque, differently-abled ramp, and Tikihut recreational facility.
Accreditation & Quality
The college was accredited by NAAC with B+ grade in 2003, reaccredited with A grade in 2009, and achieved A grade with CGPA 3.40 in its third cycle visit in November 2015. It holds ISO 9001:2008 certification from the British Standards Institution. The college is also an IGNOU Study Centre (since 2007) and conducts M.S. University Distance Education Courses.
Student Support & Welfare
The college operates six National Service Scheme units and an NCC unit with 104 cadets (33% girls' reservation). Scholarships are available through endowments, the Islamic Study Circle's Zakat Fund, and the Alumni Association's Dubai Chapter. Moral Instruction Classes for non-Muslim students and Deeniyat Classes for Muslim students are conducted weekly. A Placement Cell and Career Guidance Cell support student employment outcomes.
