Robert Morris University Illinois traces its roots to the Moser School of Business, founded in 1913. The institution itself was chartered as Robert Morris College in 1965 in Carthage, Illinois, initially as a two-year college. In 1975, it expanded to Chicago by acquiring and merging with the Moser School. The university changed its name to Robert Morris University Illinois in 2009 and operated multiple campuses across Illinois before merging with Roosevelt University in March 2020, forming the Robert Morris Experiential College as one of Roosevelt's colleges.
Robert Morris offered associate and bachelor's degrees across multiple disciplines and was regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The institution maintained a Graduate School established in 2005, which became a separate campus in Schaumburg in 2008. Prior to its merger, the university served 1,934 students with a faculty of 49.
Robert Morris athletic teams, known as the Eagles, competed primarily in the NAIA and the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. The university fielded teams in basketball, bowling, football, soccer, and ice hockey. Men's basketball reached the NAIA Final Four three times, and women's ice hockey won ACHA Division I National Championships in 2005 and 2007. In 2014, Robert Morris became the first university to offer varsity esports scholarships, with teams competing in League of Legends, Hearthstone, and Dota 2.
