About
Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) is a medical institute of Ranchi University in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, India. It is an autonomous institute under the Government of Jharkhand and was established under an act of the Jharkhand Assembly. The institute's address is Bariatu, Ranchi - 834009, Jharkhand, India. Its mission is to provide excellent and affordable health care services to the people it serves.
History
The institute was established in 1960 and was originally called Rajendra Medical College Hospital, named after Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India. The Medical College Hospital came into existence in February 1965. Dr N.L. Mitra was the first principal of the college. Dr. K.P. Shrivastava was the first director of the Institute after it was renamed. In 2002, RIMS transformed from a college cum hospital to an institute.
Academics
RIMS encompasses one college each of medical, dental, nursing, and paramedical courses. The undergraduate intake increased to 150 students under new MCI regulations, up from 90. The college provides postgraduate education in almost all departments, with around 150 intake admissions every year. The institute has initiated PhD programs and a Central Research Facility to sustain a research atmosphere.
Campus & Facilities
The college is a 2191-bedded multi-speciality hospital with advanced diagnostic tools. It also has a 14-bedded trauma centre, the first of its kind in Eastern India. Campus facilities include a stadium, parks, a multipurpose auditorium, a mini auditorium, a canteen, a coffee shop, boys' and girls' hostels, a central library, a library study section, a pathology lab (Medall Lab), and an Integrated Counselling Test Centre (ICTC).
Admissions
Undergraduate admission is available for the first year of MBBS. PhD admission involves a Ph.D. Entrance Test (Stage-I) followed by a Stage-II synopsis and DRC approval. UGC-NET and GATE qualifiers, along with RIMS faculty, are exempt from the Ph.D. Entrance Test.
