RIETS offers a structured four-year semikha curriculum centered on advanced Talmudic learning and proficiency in halakha (Jewish law). The program includes required ancillary courses in homiletics, pastoral counseling, and Jewish philosophy to prepare students for rabbinical careers. An honors track provides additional stipends and coursework. Students may concurrently enroll in the Katz Kollel and pursue graduate degrees in law, education, academic Jewish studies, psychology, and sciences through Yeshiva University's affiliated schools.
RIETS operates two post-semikha kollelim (Kollel Elyon) offering 3–4 years of advanced Torah study with stipends. The Presidential Bekius Program allows students to take examinations on selected Talmudic tractates each semester. Kollelim serve prospective teachers, rabbinic scholars, posekim (decisors of Jewish law), and those preparing for professions outside the rabbinate.
Located on Amsterdam Avenue in Washington Heights, RIETS is part of Yeshiva University's vibrant campus. The seminary moved to its current location in 1926 and continues to house the YU High School for Boys in its original building. Students benefit from access to YU's batei midrashot (study halls), library resources, and the option to spend a year of advanced learning at YU's Caroline and Joseph S. Gruss Institute in Jerusalem.
RIETS admits students of any race, color, and national or ethnic origin without discrimination. Full scholarships are available to all full-time students, and generous stipends support kollel fellows. The seminary offers professional training, career counseling, and placement assistance for positions in synagogues, schools, outreach centers, and Jewish organizations throughout the United States and worldwide.
