Its mission is to inspire people to impact their communities. The college aims to be known as the world's leading educator of holistic medicine and sustainable living. It was founded to integrate medicines of the world, preserving indigenous practices and increasing the global availability of sustainable health care.
Program areas include Permaculture Design, Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, Western Herbal Medicine, Holistic Nutrition, Doula Training and Integrative Health. Study options include on campus, live online, hybrid, and self-paced online. Many programs are the most comprehensive in Canada and North America, and some are available nowhere else in the world. Through its Department of Continuing Education, students may enrol in virtually any course provided they have met the prerequisites.
The campus is located in Market Square, a heritage structure of eight nineteenth century buildings surrounding a brick-paved courtyard in downtown Victoria. Facilities include classrooms, administration offices, a Solarium, a Student Clinic, a Herbal Dispensary, a Library, a Bookstore, and the Tiny Tree and Ravenhill Herb Farms. Students have access to free healthcare at the Student Clinic. There are no on-campus housing opportunities, but Victoria has an expansive range of rental opportunities.
The college is a Designated Private Training Institution in British Columbia and a Designated Learning Institution with Citizenship and Immigration Canada, which permits international students to study in all programs. Its acupuncture and Chinese medicine curricula meet or exceed licensing standards set by the College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC, and the programs are recognized by the CTCMA. The Diploma of Holistic Nutrition is recognized by the National Association of Nutrition Professionals. In 2016 it was named Vancouver Island 'Professional Business of the Year' in the Vancouver Island Business Excellence Awards.
