NAU offers four bachelor's degree programs: Computer Science, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, and Interdisciplinary Studies in Education. At the graduate level, the university provides five master's programs: M.Ed. in Educational Leadership, M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, M.Ed. in School Counseling, MBA (with specializations in Operations Management, Healthcare Management, Business Analytics, and Leadership and Change Management), and M.S. in Computer Science. The university also operates the Gulf Language School, which offers ESL and English language programs. Faculty members hold doctorate degrees and bring professional experience to their teaching.
Located at 11929 W Airport Boulevard in Houston, Texas, NAU provides on-campus housing and dining services for residential students. The campus includes an academic resource center, student success services, and career counseling through the Office of Career & Success Services. The university library provides access to thousands of books, newspapers, magazines, and online databases. Student organizations, health services, and parking/security services support campus life. The Stallions athletic program competes in eight varsity sports (men's basketball, football, soccer, track & field; women's basketball, soccer, cross country, track & field), though the football program was discontinued in February 2025.

International students in STEM programs are eligible for 12 months of Optional Practical Training (OPT) plus a 24-month STEM OPT extension. NAU is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges and approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to award bachelor's and master's degrees. In June 2023, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC) rejected the university's application for accreditation, citing concerns about full-time faculty hiring, financial resources, and financial documentation. The Gulf Language School is separately accredited by The Commission on English Language Program Accreditation.
