NIT Silchar offers B.Tech (4-year), M.Tech/M.Sc, MBA, and Ph.D programs across 11 departments. B.Tech curricula include compulsory industrial training of 6-8 weeks after 6th semester and project work carrying 15-20 credits. Postgraduate programs feature theory and practical components with project work spanning semesters 3-4 for M.Tech and semester 4 for M.Sc/MBA. MBA students undertake compulsory summer internship after second semester. All programs emphasize experiential learning and industry alignment for Industry 4.0 readiness.
The campus features comprehensive physical facilities including 8 boys' hostels and 2 girls' hostels, administrative and academic buildings, library, workshops, and a central computer centre. Sports facilities include a 150m × 90m playground for football, cricket, and hockey; a sports complex with indoor and outdoor games; hard courts for basketball, volleyball, and badminton; and a lawn tennis court. Additional amenities include a health centre, guest house, bank, shopping centre, and post office on campus.
B.Tech admission is conducted through JEE (via CSAB/JOSAA), with additional pathways including DASA for international students. M.Tech/M.Sc admission occurs through CCMT and JAM. MBA admission involves written test, group discussion, and personal interview. Ph.D admission is offered for July-December and January-June sessions. The institute maintains transparent admission processes with published intake status and notification schedules.
NIT Silchar maintains an active research ecosystem with funded projects, consultancy services, and publications across journals, conferences, and books. The institute hosts an HPC (High-Performance Computing) Supercomputing Centre and conducts GIAN (Global Initiative of Academic Networks) courses.
