Nevada State University offers bachelor's degrees across three schools: Liberal Arts & Sciences, Education, and Nursing. The university provides one master's degree—the Master of Education in Speech Language Pathology—and launched Nevada's first Bachelor of Science in Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in 2008. NSU partners with Touro University for Occupational Therapy, allowing students to complete three years at NSU before transferring for the final two years. The university received independent accreditation at the baccalaureate level from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities in 2011.
The 509-acre campus is nestled at the foot of Mount Scorpion in Henderson's southeastern corner. Key facilities include the Liberal Arts & Sciences Building (opened 2008), the Bob and Allison Kasner Academic Building, and the James E. and Beverly Rogers Student Center. The Christenson Education Building and Student Village dormitories are under construction. The campus features energy-efficient classrooms with 40 students or fewer, sustainable design elements including solar panels and xeriscaping, and an organic teaching garden. Students benefit from academic advising, counseling services, disability resources, veteran support, and a food pantry.
As of November 2024, NSU was planning to launch a full athletics program funded through a proposed student fee. In April 2026, the university announced it would join the Great Southwest Athletic Conference, with initial sports including women's flag football and men's track and field, plus men's and women's cross country. The university is also expanding with a new satellite campus in North Las Vegas, expected to open fall 2027, featuring a 30,000-square-foot academic building as part of the NLV Gateway development.
NSU serves a diverse student body with 41% low-income students (Pell Grant recipients) and 59% from middle-class or affluent backgrounds. The university is ranked #1 in the nation for student satisfaction among public four-year universities (EdSights survey). Comprehensive student support includes academic advising, tutoring through the Academic Success Center, writing center services, disability resources, and TRIO support programs.
