History
The college made a modest beginning at Lalbagh near the University campus in Darbhanga in 1958, offering an Intermediate (Arts) programme. It was established as Maharani Rameshwari Mahila Tutorial College in 1958 by Pandit Girindra Mohan Mishra, Lala Padmanabh Prasad and Dr. L. K. Mishra. The college historically began with primary education for girls, managed by a non-government organization named Jan Kalyan Trust.
Academics
The college imparts teaching up to honours level in 19 subjects and post-graduate level in ten subjects. Post-graduate courses are offered in Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Zoology, Economics, English, Hindi, History and Political Science. The college has Science, Arts and Commerce departments. It is the first women college of Lalit Narayan Mithila University to offer PG courses and the first to adopt E-Learning methodology, including a virtual lab.
Campus & Facilities
The college campus is spread over nine acres of land in lush green surroundings, with extensive play grounds and open spaces. Three hostels for girl students, Kasturba, Kalyani and Shishir, are located within the main campus, with residential and dining facilities for more than 200 students. The college library has about 21,665 books. Listed facilities include a hostel, canteen and free Wi-Fi / 24x7 internet.
Admissions
Degree admission for the first semester is through a second merit list. PG admission for the first semester is also available. The college invites all students irrespective of gender, caste, religion and physical challenges.
