The Montessori Training Centre of British Columbia is a non-profit society offering AMI-accredited Montessori training in Vancouver.
The Montessori Training Centre of British Columbia (MTCBC) is located in the Shaughnessy neighbourhood of Vancouver, B.C., Canada. It operates as a non-profit society. Its purpose is to offer Montessori training courses accredited by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) and professional development opportunities for the community.
The MTCBC was established in 1982 to meet the growing need for AMI Montessori educators. It is described as the only AMI affiliated training centre in western Canada.
The MTCBC is an approved training institution in British Columbia, and completing its course qualifies graduates to apply for an ECE certificate. It is a designated institution with the Private Training Institutions Branch of the Ministry of Post Secondary Education and Future Skills. It is also a Designated Learning Institution in the International Student Program listed with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
The facility includes dedicated practice teaching environments where teacher trainees can work hands-on with specially designed Montessori materials. The centre remains open year-round, allowing students to access these materials during independent practice times. Students have access to personal lockers, student lounge areas, washrooms, a book lending library, and material-making supplies. The Montessori Children's Community is one of the observation and practicum sites used by the training centre.
