A public institute of national importance in Prayagraj, originally established in 1961 as a Regional Engineering College and now a National Institute of Technology.
The Institute was established in 1961 as one of the seventeen Regional Engineering Colleges of India, as a joint enterprise of the Government of India and the Government of Uttar Pradesh. It was earlier an associated college of the University of Allahabad. On June 26, 2002, it was transformed into a National Institute of Technology and Deemed University, fully funded by the Government of India. 2007.
The Institute offers nine B.Tech. and nineteen M.Tech. degree programmes (including part-time), along with MCA, MBA, M.Sc. (Mathematics and Scientific Computing) and M.S.W. programmes, and registers candidates for the Ph.D. degree. It was the first in the country to start an undergraduate programme in Computer Science & Engineering, in 1976-77. The School of Management Studies was established in 1996. The Institute has been recognized by the Government of India as one of the centres for the Quality Improvement Programme for M.Tech. and Ph.D.
The entire campus is networked with a 94 Mbps lease line. In 1972, the Institute established an industrial estate with 68 sheds. Facilities include boys and girls hostels, hostel messes, hostel internet connectivity, hostel generator backup, a Central Library, and a digital library with reading halls.
Admissions to B.Tech. programmes are through JEE Main via JoSAA/CSAB. M.Tech. admissions include GATE (Regular) and DASA. DASA is also available for Foreign Nationals, PIOs and NRIs, and the ICCR scholarship is offered.
