Puerto Rico's oldest Pentecostal theological university, founded in 1937.
Mizpa Pentecostal University was founded in 1937 by Juan L. Lugo as the Mizpa Bible Institute in barrio Santurce. The first 12 students graduated on January 9, 1939. The institution relocated to barrio Pajaros in Bayamon, then to its current location in barrio Caimito, Rio Piedras in 1956. In 1985, Mizpa merged with the Pentecostal Seminary of Puerto Rico (SEPRI) and became Mizpa Pentecostal College, expanding to offer university-level education. The institution received Initial Accreditation from the Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE) in February 2001 and reaffirmation in February 2006.
Mizpa offers certificate programs in chaplaincy, Christian education, and ministerial studies through 20 centers across Puerto Rico. At the associate degree level, the university provides programs in Christian education, Christian counseling, pastoral theology, and missiology. The institution also offers professional improvement courses for pastors promoted by the Pentecostal Church of God, M.I. in Puerto Rico. The university community represents more than 13sister denominations.
Students at the San Juan campus have access to Pell Grants and federal aid through the Title IV program, making higher education more accessible to qualified students.
