Mitchell Community College offers associate degree programs in college transfer (arts and sciences), health sciences, business technologies, computer technologies and graphic design, engineering and construction technology, public safety technologies, and business/agricultural/natural resource technologies. The college also provides non-degree programs, apprenticeships, high school equivalency courses, and continuing education. Career and College Promise dual enrollment is available for high school students.
The college operates two main campuses: Statesville (500 W. Broad Street) and Mooresville (219 N. Academy Street, opened 1983). Student life includes campus events, community concerts, food trucks, and a cosmetology advanced student clinic. The college provides academic resources, tutoring, a library, bookstore, and student support services. Campus tours are available for prospective students.

Originally founded as Concord Female College in 1856 and sponsored by the Presbyterian Church, the institution became Mitchell College in 1917 to honor Eliza Mitchell Grant and Margaret Eliot Mitchell. It joined the North Carolina Community College System in 1973. Notable alumni include NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr., who earned an associate degree in automotive technology, and cryptanalyst Virginia Dare Aderholdt. The college's Main Building and Historic District are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
