A historic Lutheran women's junior college in Virginia that served students from 1873 to 1967.
Marion College was a Lutheran junior women's college established in 1873 in Marion, Virginia. The institution operated for nearly a century, providing two-year degree programs to female students. As a Lutheran-affiliated college, it maintained close ties with Roanoke College, a sister Lutheran institution that would later adopt Marion's alumnae records and honor the college's legacy through Marion Hall, a women's residence constructed in 1968.
Though Marion College closed in 1967 due to financial difficulties, its impact endured through its alumnae network. Roanoke College assumed stewardship of Marion's historical records and maintains a biennial reunion for Marion graduates on its campus. The college produced notable alumnae, including Brenda Holsinger Schwarzkopf, wife of General Norman Schwarzkopf.
