Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute (MGMCRI) is a private nonprofit institution run by Sri Balaji Educational & Charitable Public Trust (SBECPT). It is a constituent college of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, Pondicherry, a Health Sciences Deemed to be University recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and accredited by NAAC with A++ Grade. The college is located at SBV Campus, Pillaiyarkuppam, Pondicherry, and is named after Mahatma Gandhi.
History
MGMCRI began in April 2001, when the first batch of MBBS students was admitted. In 2007 it started postgraduate courses in clinical specialties, and in 2008-2009 it added pre- and para-clinical specialties. The Medical Council of India increased the MBBS intake to 250 with effect from 2014.
Academics
MGMCRI currently offers an MBBS program with an intake of 250, along with 20 postgraduate programs in pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical specialties. It also provides 4 super specialty programs and 13 fellowship programs. PhD programs are offered in all programs, including interdisciplinary areas. Postgraduate MD/MS admission is available.
Campus & Facilities
The institute's attached super-specialty hospital has 1350 beds and is committed to providing tertiary medical care in several areas. A Central Interdisciplinary Research Facility (CIDRF) has been established to foster and promote research. Listed campus facilities include lecture halls, departmental museums, the Bapuji Library with digital library and internet kiosks, an auditorium, hostels, a central kitchen, a playground, a fitness centre and gymnasium, cafeterias and canteen, and institute buses. The hospital has received NABH entry-level pre-accreditation.
Mission
MGMCRI aims to bring about innovations in teaching-learning processes so that its graduates are unique in obtaining comprehensive medical knowledge and become lifelong learners. A stated goal is to raise MGMCRI to be among the top ten medical institutions in the country.
