Academics
Loyola College offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs across ten schools of excellence: Commerce & Economics, Computational Sciences, Human Excellence, Humanities & Social Sciences, Languages, Life Sciences, Media Studies, Physical Education, Physical Sciences, and Service Learning. The college provides 24 UG programs and 21 PG programs, with specializations in areas such as B.Com (Accounting & Finance), B.Com (Computer Applications), BBA, and various science disciplines. Diploma and PG Diploma courses are also available through the Loyola Institute of Vocational Education (LIVE).
Campus & Infrastructure
The college is located at Sterling Road, Nungambakkam, Chennai – 600 034. Facilities include a Central Library with extensive print and digital resources, men's and women's hostels, dedicated labs for online testing, halls for presentations and mock interviews, and a campus ministry. The college maintains a research park and provides access to e-learning platforms, LMS portals, and digital libraries including UGC-INFLIBNET resources.
Admissions
Admissions for 2026-2027 are conducted through online application portals for undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The college offers both government-supported and self-supporting streams. First-year UG classes commence on 24 June 2026, and first-year PG classes on 29 June 2026. Prospectuses and detailed admission information are available on the official website. The college also offers international academic collaboration programs (LIAC) with France-based institutions.
Placements & Outcomes
The Training & Placement Cell provides comprehensive career advancement support and corporate skill training. The college has established partnerships with startups and multinational companies across various sectors. Infrastructure includes dedicated halls for presentations, pre-placement talks, written tests, and mock interview rooms. Recent placements include students in companies such as NGP WebSmart. The college maintains annual placement reports and provides internship and part-time opportunities.
Research & Innovation
The college supports 16 PhD programs across arts, commerce, and science disciplines, with 291 active research scholars. Research initiatives include the Loyola Institute of Social Science Training and Research (LISSTAR), Centre for Social Science and Economic Inclusion (CSSEIP), and the Institution's Innovation Council. The college publishes research through various platforms and maintains partnerships with national research networks including Vidwan and IRINS.
Heritage & Mission
Inspired by St. Ignatius of Loyola, the college was founded in 1925 with the mission of providing university education in a Christian atmosphere for deserving students irrespective of caste and creed. The college received autonomous status in 1978 and has been a pioneer in introducing innovative programs such as Visual Communication. It maintains a strong alumni network established in 1990 and celebrates its centenary with ongoing institutional development.
