A statewide system of public technical colleges in Louisiana, active 1930–2012.
Louisiana Technical College was established in 1930 as a network of trade schools across Louisiana. It operated as a unified system until 2006, when Act 506 of the 2005 Louisiana Regular Session mandated reorganization. On July 1, 2006, LTC ceased to exist as a single entity and its 42 campuses were realigned into seven regional technical colleges: Arcadiana Technical College, Capital Area Technical College, Central Louisiana Technical College, Northshore Technical College, Northeast Louisiana Technical College, Northwest Louisiana Technical College, and South Central Louisiana Technical College. These new colleges continued operating under the LTC name until 2012, when they were fully integrated into the Louisiana Community & Technical College System (LCTCS), which was created in 1999.
Louisiana Technical College provided professional and technical education across multiple regions of the state. The system was designated as a National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium (NAFTC) Training Center. Programs were distributed across regional campuses serving diverse geographic areas, from New Orleans to Shreveport and rural parishes throughout Louisiana.
At its peak, LTC operated 42 campuses organized into nine regions. Major regional centers included Capital Area Technical College in Baton Rouge, Acadiana Technical College in Lafayette, Central Louisiana Technical College in Alexandria, Northwest Louisiana Technical College in Minden, and Northshore Technical College in Bogalusa. Between 2010 and 2018, all LTC campuses were systematically merged into other Louisiana Community & Technical College System institutions.
