Kodiak College offers a range of two-year degree programs including Associate of Arts (AA) and Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees in accounting, computer information systems, early childhood education, business, nursing, and technology. The college also provides certificate programs in computer information and office systems, health care assistance, and related fields. Approximately 100 courses are offered each semester. The college's only bachelor's degree is in Education, reflecting its focus on foundational and career-oriented education.
The college occupies a 50-acre campus located approximately 2 miles from downtown Kodiak. The campus features the Carolyn Floyd Library and the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium. Students have access to community resources, disability support services, student coaching, and technology support including Blackboard and MS Office 365. The college emphasizes individualized support and responsive service to community needs.
Kodiak College welcomes new students through a straightforward admissions process with a New Student Checklist. The college offers placement testing via Accuplacer and ALEKS, financial aid including FAFSA and Pell Grants, and scholarship opportunities. Additional support includes advising, new student orientation, and academic pathways to help students succeed.
Kodiak College was established in 1968 with just eight courses and 95 students, all taught by Carolyn Floyd. The college moved to its own dedicated campus in 1972. In 1987, it transitioned from a community college designation to become a satellite campus of the University of Alaska Anchorage, where it remains today.
