Kerala University College of Teacher Education, Kayamkulam is a private nonprofit, co-educational institution located at Muthukulam, Karthikapally, in Alappuzha, Kerala. The college is affiliated to the University of Kerala and is recognized by NCTE. Its vision is to mould teachers with right attitudes, values, ideals and commitment towards profession, society and nation.
The college was established in November 1997 under the control of the University of Kerala. The development is a joint venture by the University of Kerala and the Government of Kerala. When it was established, students were admitted to seven disciplines: Arabic, English, Hindi, Physical Science, Social Science, Natural Science and Mathematics.
The college offers a two-year Graduate level B.Ed course with a proposed intake of 50 students. Presently, the Bachelor of Education course is provided in five disciplines: Hindi, Arabic, Natural Science, Social Science and Physical Science. Its mission is to excel in teacher education by providing quality teacher education to all sections of society and producing globally competent teachers.
The campus area is about 5000 sq.mt. and is situated in the heart of Kayamkulam, near National Highway 47. The Govt Boys High School and Govt Upper Primary School share the same campus. Facilities include classrooms, a conference room, a multipurpose hall, a library-cum-reading room, an ICT resource centre, curriculum laboratories, an art and resource centre, a health and physical education resource centre, multipurpose playfields, common rooms, a seminar room, a canteen and separate toilet facilities. The institution has 15 staff members.
The college has a Students Union that constitutes the Arts Club, Sports Club and Recreational clubs. Students have participated in intercollege competitions and received prizes. Kayamkulam is an important town in Alappuzha District with historical and cultural relevance.
